The Digital Skills for Family Farming Meeting (e-CoDAF) is a conference organized by the Digital Skills for Family Farming (CoDAF) Outreach Project in partnership with higher education institutions, with the goal of creating spaces for presentations, debates and knowledge sharing on the use and development of Information and Communication Technologies for small rural producers.
In its fifth edition, e-CoDAF addressed the theme "Data access technology for the management of small rural properties" and was held jointly with São Paulo State University (UNESP), the São Paulo State Technology College (FATEC) and the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). The activities of the event were broadcast simultaneously among all participating hubs (Tupã-SP, Presidente Prudente-SP, Belém-PA and Tucuruí-PA), and were also streamed live on the YouTube channel of the Data Access Technology Research Group (GPTAD).
The talks were given by national and international researchers, who spoke about issues such as: the profile of horticulturists in Wales and their familiarity with digital technologies (Prof. David Skydmore), examples of application projects for small producers in the Tucuruí-PA region (Prof. Viviane Santos), marketing structures and channels (Prof. Armando Lirio), social technologies for basic sanitation (Prof. Vânia Neu), the use of UAVs as a resource for collecting data on small rural properties (Gerson Serejo), the use of data for soil analysis (Prof. Edemar Moro), the importance of human capital for the development of digital skills in small rural producers (Prof. José Tonon), and the importance of technology for creating strategies for processing products and increasing income (Prof. André Mesquita).
In addition to the talks, scientific papers were also presented demonstrating theoretical and practical results of research related to the use or development of technologies for access to data and information for small rural producers. At the end, the four best papers were selected to be published in the Electronic Journal of Digital Skills for Family Farming (RECoDAF). The remaining papers are being edited and will be published in the form of a proceedings book.
As a post-conference activity, short courses aimed at small rural producers were held at the FATEC/Presidente Prudente and UNESP/Tupã hubs, covering the use of apps for the rural management process and the use of social networks as a resource to give visibility to agricultural production.
