Embrapa Soils (Rio de Janeiro) is developing the project of an app that aims to bring soil classification to tablets and smartphones. The app, called SMARTSolos, will allow rural producers to view the classification of their property's soil in real time.
SMARTSolos uses the Brazilian System of Soil Classification (SiBCS), and according to Luís de França da Silva Neto, a researcher at the Research and Development Execution Unit of Embrapa Soils, the SiBCS is a reference in soil teaching, research and rural extension.
The SMARTSolos app will have multiple interfaces, which will allow information about soil to be provided in a way that is accessible to farmers, students and researchers.
According to Embrapa, the app is expected to be ready in 24 months, starting from the month of August.
