Post-harvest technology for small vegetable growers earns certification

· By Juliana Bernardes

The “Work Stations - Vegetable Processing” technology, developed by researcher Milza Lana, was one of the finalist and certified technologies in the 8th edition of the Banco do Brasil Foundation (FBB) Award, together with the Social Technology Bank (BTS).

Lana received the news of the certification in the last week of August. Her project is a structure made up of: a Mobile Shading Unit (UMS), a Tarp, a Sorting Table, and a Vegetable Harvesting and Transport Cart. Its goal is to improve working conditions during the harvest and processing of vegetables grown by small producers.

"The Work Station, for example, is a technology that solves a problem linked to social well-being and is quite specific: the working conditions related to the post-harvest stage of vegetables, and their impacts not only on the farmer's health but also on the product of the harvest," the researcher stresses.

This edition had the participation of Embrapa Hortaliças (DF) and drew more than 800 entries. Besides the certification, the event brought together an online database that allows searching the certified projects through the Social Technology Bank (BTS)
