Federal Government proposes program to help small milk producers.

On September 29, the Ministry of Agriculture launched the “Healthy Milk Program,” which aims to benefit about 80,000 milk producers in the Center-West, Southeast and South regions, which hold 72.6% of national milk production.

Through this program, the Ministry of Agriculture will train small producers, helping to improve milk quality and increase production. The goal of the program is to bring production up to the same daily volume per animal obtained in world-leading countries such as Argentina (16 liters per cow) and New Zealand (11 liters).”

The program will receive an investment of R$ 387 million and aims to increase exports of products and derivatives such as powdered milk and butter, which, in 2014, were US$ 345 million, to US$ 825 million in 2018.

Agriculture Minister Kátia Abreu, at the presentation of the program, stressed the government's intention to increase milk production by small producers, whose daily average is 50 liters, to 200 liters per day, and also stressed that most of these producers belong to classes D and E.

For the proposal to succeed, the Brazilian Government, in partnership with SEBRAE and SENAR, which are responsible for 60% of the investments, seeks to bring these producers to the rural middle class, providing technical training lasting 200 hours “and the demand for training technicians will be met by Pronatec,” reported the Brasil website.
