Poultry Farmer's Day was celebrated on August 28, honoring those responsible for raising poultry and for the management, feeding and health of the farms. It is important to note that Brazil became internationally recognized as the "breadbasket of the world", since it has fertile land and a favorable environment for raising poultry. As a result, the country has more than 150 markets importing chicken meat and approximately 4 million tons shipped annually, which is almost one third of everything produced.
With advances in genetic technology, broilers are now slaughtered at about 37 days of age and an average weight of 2.4 kilograms, unlike before, when they were raised free-range and took 6 months to reach slaughter weight. However, the introduction of balanced nutrition, proper management and sanitary control resulted in Brazil's entry into the ranking as the third largest producer of chicken meat in the world.
Brazilian poultry farming has become a world reference, and one of the most notable places is the city of Bastos-SP, which is internationally known as one of the largest egg-laying producers in the world and is also recognized as the cradle of Japanese-Brazilian production in this segment.
Companies care about the environment and have their own environmental management plans, and as a result the country has reached a high level of health standards, being the only one among the major producers that has never had a single recorded case of Avian Influenza.
