On June 3, the CoDAF project organized the 2nd Data, Technology and Information Study Cycle at the School of Sciences and Engineering (FCE), in the Shunji Nishimura auditorium at UNESP Tupã.
In its second edition, CEDIT aimed to address research methodologies related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), from the perspective of Information Science.
The presentations consisted of three 15-minute talks and one 50-minute talk, given by members of the CoDAF project.
The first talk, presented by Prof. Dr. Fernando de Assis Rodrigues, was on “Data scraping on government websites.” It covered the process of automated collection of datasets contained in websites, such as government portals. The data extraction tool discussed was Web Scraper, a Chrome browser extension for extracting data from web pages, where the scraped data can be exported in CSV (Comma Separated Values) format, which many applications can open, such as LibreOffice, OpenOffice, Microsoft Excel, among others. The talk is available on the CoDAF YouTube channel; click here to watch the video. Click here to download the presentation.
Master's student Jacquelin Teresa Camperos Reyes gave the talk titled "Scientific data: case study of the data repository directory www.re3data.org." re3data.org – Registry of Research Data Repositories is a directory of scientific data repositories provided by DataCite, that is, of scientific data available on the web, which allows permanent access to datasets in a trusted environment for researchers, funding bodies, publishers and academic institutions. Master's student Pedro Henrique Santos Bisi gave the talk titled "Use of data for the management of small rural properties," presenting the scenario of the importance of small producers and how the use of data to manage their properties can be a competitive advantage. Finally, he demonstrated the use of a spreadsheet developed and made available by the CoDAF project for managing the inventory of inputs.
To close, Prof. M.S. and doctoral student Fábio Mosso Moreira gave the talk "Content analysis applied in Information Science research," in which he described the “Content Analysis” method and placed its application in the context of Information Science. To that end, he explained the existing approaches in Scientific Methodology, such as quantitative and qualitative, and how research is classified according to its objectives, as exploratory, descriptive or explanatory. The stages of construction were covered, such as collection and analysis, as well as the techniques and instruments used in the collection and analysis stage. For the Content Analysis method, he explained its functions and how to increase the propensity for discovery, with the lexical or categorical types; its stages, such as exploration of the material, which uses categories; and the treatment of the results, with critical analyses to be applied in the context of Information Science.
