Beef cattle account for a large share of income generation, being one of the main agribusiness sectors contributing to the Brazilian economy, and are well represented in the western region of São Paulo.
The study and compilation of the data to be studied on beef cattle aim to give the portal's audience alternatives for creating data visualizations.
Information about the data source
Name and Description of the Maintaining Institution: the institution providing the data is Embrapa, a technological innovation company focused on generating knowledge and technology for Brazilian agriculture and livestock. It was created on April 26, 1973 and is linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Embrapa works in Research, Development and Technology Transfer in the areas of Fisheries and Agriculture. It is a public company, and its goals are to make viable research, development and innovation solutions for the sustainability of agriculture, for the benefit of Brazilian society. On its portal, it provides the following information: about Embrapa and all its activities, Products, Processes and Services, Library, Courses and Events, Projects, News, Multimedia and Access to Information.

Description of the navigation process to the source : to access the data source, it is recommended to use the latest version of Flash Player, or to use the Explorer browsing platform. After choosing your browsing platform, the first step is to go to the IPEC website, whose link is: http://iepec.com/, and search for “AGROPENSA” in the search bar located in the upper right corner of the screen. After running the search, click on the link “Embrapa launches database with information on national Agriculture and Livestock” that will appear on the screen. After doing this, you will find the data distributed in three large groups: Livestock, Agricultural Production and Slaughter. You will choose the Livestock option (first option).
Information about the data
File format: The dataset is made available as .xls
Description of the data attributes: Information is provided on Brazilian livestock, on the number of animals slaughtered, and also on Brazil's agriculture. The data taken to build the spreadsheet are on livestock, involving the number of cattle herds, with a survey from 2006 to 2015.
The variables used in the spreadsheet presented are the number of head of cattle and time.

For data visualization, the tool used was charts, to make these data easier to interpret and view. In presenting the charts, the variables used were the number of head of cattle over the years in the Regions of Brazil and in the Southeast States. Thus, the first chart shows the relationship between the regions of Brazil and the total for Brazil, and the second chart shows the relationship between the State of SP and the total for the Southeast region.
